HEAD TAGS META TAGS WEBSITE - SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO) DEVELOPMENT DESIGN

For search engine optimization development and design or SEO development and design, head tag / meta tag composition is critical. Without proper components in the head tag section, the website will not prosper on search engines although it will still function normally. To most webmasters, however, this is not enough as their SEO development and design or search engine optimization development and design goals usually include ranking well on the major search engines and driving web traffic to their website, especially if the website is ecommerce based.

Head tags are located in the "head" section of the HTML markup of any web page. Head tags are important for the purpose of informing search engines as to how to catalog or index a website. Websites that are built without them seldom rank well in any search engine, if at all. The minimum head tag requirement is called the "title", although technically it is not a tag but called a meta tag because it resides in the "head" section.

As the head tag title suggests, a brief, informative title that accurately describes the web page is most important for search engine optimization design and development or SEO design and development. It's important to restrict the length of the "title" tag as well as the other meta tags that reside in the head. Without a good head on it's shoulders, the body doesn't usually fair too well. More on tag length will be discussed later on.

The other head element that SEO or search engine optimization is dependent upon are the meta tags, although it's important to note that some meta tags carry more SEO weight than others. Head tags are supported by all the major browsers which include: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari. Head tags in HTML can be composed in upper and lower case while XHTML must be composed in all lower case.

The other head tag of note are the meta tags which provide meta data regarding the HTML document. As with any element of the head tag, these are also invisible to human visitors to the website and are parsed by search engines for the purpose of indexing the web page. The meta tags always go inside the head tag and are used to specify the page description, content keywords, author of the web page and date last modified.

The meta tags can be used by all browsers, search engines or other web services as to how to display content, how to load pages and what keywords are included.
